Ok, I am not the kind to pay a lot for my dinner, but for some of us, a fine dining experience is a must. Below are some of the Palm Springs area restaurants that are famous for their fine food and atmosphere.

" Roy's "

Roy's is an upscale causal restaurant featuring Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine. Since opening the original Roy's, they have set out to explore new directions – freely blending the European techniques in which Roy Yamaguchi was trained with familiar ingredients of Asia and the Pacific. The results are reflected in a truly contemporary style of cuisine, which Roy calls Hawaiian Fusion. Coupled with the "aloha" style of service – straight from the heart with a sense of caring and individuality – which is predicated on the mission to "totally please and indulge" every guest; it is the combination of good food and quality service that inspires the hallmark Roy's dining experience.

" Outback Steakhouse "  ©

Ok, I admit it, I am a casual, low price kind of dining person. I usually tend to go to my favorite restaurants that I have been going to for ages, but for my wife's birthday a couple years ago we went to Outback and had one of the best meals of our lives ! !

We really enjoyed our first taste of the Bloomin’ Onion® !  In fact, I have to admit we were almost afraid we would not be able eat our dinner after enjoying the Bloomin’ Onion® !  For dinner I had a Rockhampton Rib-Eye, which is a 14-ounce rib-eye steak which was great, and my wife had a Victoria’s Filet® which is a 9-ounce tenderloin cooked to perfection! We were both very satisfied with our meals, and we would recommend Outback to anyone.

Outback Steakhouse serves the freshest food possible, using only the highest quality ingredients; from fresh imported Parmesan cheese, grated fresh daily, to imported virgin olive oil. Their fresh Midwestern grain fed beef is the highest quality choice beef available and they serve only fresh, never frozen chicken and fish. Almost everything is made fresh daily in house including their salad dressings, delicious chocolate sauce, or croutons, and creamy onion soup. Outback likes to describe their menu as “full flavored” and are proud of the fact that Outback really defines the word quality with our food.

" Wally's Desert Turtle  "

To savor unforgettable continental cuisine in the most exquisite restaurant in the desert, Wally’s Desert Turtle is a must. This magnificent restaurant is the proud recipient of the prestigious Mobil Travel Four Star Award, AAA Four Diamond Award, the DiRoNA Award and voted “Outstanding Restaurant” at the Rancho Mirage Awards of Excellence.

While I have only eaten at a couple of the following restaurants, they are considered some of the best in the Palm Springs Area.

" Billy Reed's "

Billy Reed’s Restaurant Bakery & Bar is now celebrating its 27th year as a famous and popular Palm Springs restaurant. More than 15 million meals have been served over the past 26 years and for good reason.

Restaurant Location:

1800 North Palm Canyon Drive / Palm Springs, California 92262

( 760 )  325 - 1946

" Kaiser Grille "

Since opening in 1992, delighted diners made Kaiser Grille an instant classic. So successful was the original Palm Desert restaurant, that in 1998, the Morcus family opened a second in the heart of Palm Springs.

Diners can choose from varied favorites like “Surf and Turf” (prime rib with shrimp pancetta and citrus mango beurre blanc), pristine grilled fish, an assortment of wood-fired gourmet pizzas, beautiful main plate salads, rotisserie specialties, chops and numerous non-traditional pastas. All are served with a choice of Kaiser Grille’s “Famous Roasted Garlic Smashed Potatoes” or house rice and plenty of fresh seasonal vegetables. In addition, the restaurants offer daily signature dishes including a chef’s special, fresh catch of the day, and a featured pasta. Desserts, like freshly baked cobblers made with seasonal fruits, are best accompanied by special dessert coffees. Dinner is served nightly in Palm Desert, lunch and dinner daily in Palm Springs. Reservations are suggested.

" Midori "

For more than a decade, Midori, has been the “sushi oasis,” a charming Oriental tavern complete with tranquil garden and mirrored bamboo and rice paper decor. It’s first come, first served at Midori; so be prepared to wait for your coveted Sushi Bar seat during high-season weekends. However, full Sushi Bar menu items can be ordered at any table. Open year-round, Midori serves lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner nightly from 5 to 10 p.m. weekdays and to 11 p.m. on weekends.

" Las Casuelas Nuevas "

Mexico is only minutes away! For years, Las Casuelas Nuevas and Casuelas Café have transported tourists and locals alike into the heart of Mexico, combining award-winning Mexican cuisine with gracious hospitality. In my opinion Las Casuelas Nuevas has the best Jumbo Margaritas in the valley!!

The restaurant features both patio and hacienda-style dining with strolling musicians and regional specialties such as Pollo en Mole, Camarones Guaymas and Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas. Enjoy lunch, dinner or casual Sunday Brunch while listening to mariachi music. If you stay late, be sure to join the fun as Las Casuelas becomes
Caramba’s MusiCantina, the desert’s foremost Latin nightclub.

Restaurant Location:

70 - 050 Highway 111 / Rancho Mirage, California 92270

( 760 )  328 - 8844

" Las Casuelas Terraza "

Las Casuelas Terraza carries on a tradition which began 40 years ago when Del and Mary Delgado opened their first restaurant, a quaint little cafe serving family recipes. The original Las Casuelas became so popular it sprouted three more in adjacent desert resorts, including Palm Springs’ elegant Terraza. All remain owned and carefully managed by Delgado family members.

The menu offers low-fat, low-cholesterol spicy pork dishes and four kinds of bean side dishes, including whole, plump pinto beans, in addition to the traditional frijoles.

Restaurant Location:

222 South Palm Canyon Drive / Palm Springs, California 92262

( 760 )  325 - 2794

" Cedar Creek Inn "

Cedar Creek Inn’s outstanding, menu has expanded to include even more salads and sandwiches, all prepared with fresh-daily products. Great entrées and a delicious prime steak menu, scrumptious homemade desserts and international specialty coffees have made Cedar Creek Inn one of Palm Springs’ best places to celebrate special occasions.

Enjoy Brunch favorites every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early Bird Specials every day all year.

Cedar Creek Inn’s Derby Lounge offers top live entertainment and dancing Wednesday through Sunday, September through May. The oak-paneled lounge with stone fireplace opens onto outdoor seating overlooking Palm Canyon Drive. Enhanced by larger tables and comfortable seating, complete lunch and dinner menus are now served here, too.

Desert diners are lucky thrice to have this award-winning restaurant at three locations in the Coachella Valley, the original in Palm Desert, a recently-opened LG’s in downtown Palm Springs with a fire pit and a climate- controlled patio and bar, and a third LG’s — 12,000 square feet, about to blossom on the fine-dining scene, at the corner of Washington and Highway 111 in La Quinta.

" The Yard House "

The Yard House is Southern California’s premier dining destination with locations in Long Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine and Rancho Mirage.

Enjoy an eclectic menu of American Fusion cuisine while tapping into one of the world’s largest selection of draft beers. From the classic taste of Coors Light to more daring and obscure ales, there’s something for everyone at the Yard House. The pulse of each location is the innovative keg room, which houses more than 1,000 gallons of beer. From here, the golden liquid is then transported to the signature oval bar via miles of an intricate network of nylon tubing and then poured from 180-250 taps.

The restaurant takes its name from the early Colonial tradition of serving beer in 36-inch tall glasses—or yards—to weary stagecoach drivers. The Yard House pays homage to this tradition by serving its selection of ales in glass yards, as well as half yards and traditional pint glasses. Complementing the selection of suds is an award-winning menu of American Fusion cuisine. Signature dishes range from the torte-like California Roll to the mouthwatering Crab Cake Hoagie to an impressive selection of steaks and chops. There’s also an extensive list of appetizers, salads, pasta and rice dishes, as well as sandwiches and individual pizzas. Late-night dining is also available, and each restaurant can accommodate groups for private celebrations.
