The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival known to most fans simply as Coachella is a three-day annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. The event features many genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop, and electronica as well as large sculptural art. The event has several stages/tents set-up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously. The main stages are: Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent (2006 also saw the addition of a smaller Oasis Dome).
Coachella draws thousands of music fans into the area each year, and is one of the most popular and famous music festivals in the world.
The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival ran April 17-19, 2009.
The 2009 Coachella lineup included Paul McCartney, Morrisey, Franz Ferdinand, Leonard Cohen, Conor, Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Beirut, The Black Keys, Girl Talk, Silversun Pick-ups, The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Thievery Corporation, TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, MSTRKRFT, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Atmosphere, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Throbbing Gristle, Lupe Fiasco, Paul Weller, Peter Bjorn and John, X, Antony & the Johnsons, Roni Size, Public Enemy and Jenny Lewis.
